In a “normal” royal situation, the advisors purpose is to direct the king in making the right decision. He helps him through certain protocols and reads over documents for him before signing. The advisor is usually the one who deals with the public and listens to concerns and ideas from the public. He acts on behalf of the king.

He also played an important role in the attempt to divorce King Henry VIII from Queen Katherine because she did not bear any male heirs to their family. Henry VIII wants to marry Anne Bullen who Cardinal Wolsey introduced to Henry VIII at a gala. In order to have the marriage annulled, Wolsey brings in a representative of the Pope to settle the divorce. This means that Gonzalo if considered old would be somewhere between 40 and 50 years of age. This is shocking because today, that is considered to be in the middle of a persons life.
